Golf, tennis, pony-trekking and excellent walking are available locally, as well as a wide range of water sports. Steamboats ply from Waterhead down to the lakeside terminus of the steam-hauled Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, and ferries cross to the western shore from which visitors may reach the cottage of Beatrix Potter.
