Formerly known as the “Sugar Palace,” the Andaz Prague is a neo-baroque gem was built in 1916 for the Sugar Industry Insurance Association. Over the years, it has served as a meeting place for sugar barons, a refuge for deputies during the 1968 Soviet occupation, and was designated a cultural monument in 1993.

Today, it houses Andaz Prague, the city’s first Hyatt hotel, a 5-star property with 152 luxurious rooms and 24 suites. The onsite restaurant, ZEM, and bar, MEZ, are equally committed to upscale experiences.

From 2000 onwards, the palace was empty. In 2006, J&T company bought the building with a development project in mind. However, this was never realized and the building waited for a new purpose. That came in 2018 when Austrian company UMB Development bought it, intending to turn it into a luxury hotel. The project materialized in collaboration with American hotels chain Hyatt and a new era of the Sugar Palace began in 2022 when it reopened to guests.

In a city deeply tied to myths and legends, Andaz Prague shines a light on these stories through the building’s history and original design details around every corner of the hotel as well as the integration of local artwork.

The property’s location at Senovážné náměstí, in the very heart of Prague, just next to the Jindřišská Tower, makes it ideal for exploring the city. Andaz Prague is only a few steps from favored historic sights and cultural gems including Old Town, Wenceslas Square, Old Town astronomical clock, Powder Gate Tower, Mucha’s museum, Franz Kafka’s Head, and the National Library.

Andaz Prague Highlights:

  • Original windows, doors, and fireplaces have been preserved, with a color palette that complements neighboring houses. Special care was given to renewing and restoring the historically valuable interiors.
  • Decorations emphasize national tradition, with folklore patterns on carpets and walls and wooden elements nodding to traditional Czech carpentry.
  • The hotel’s design is inspired by Czech myths and legends like the Golem, Princess Libuše’s prophecy, and Prince Bruncvik. The reception area features nest-like chandeliers, reflecting Bruncvik’s escape from Amber Isle, while lionhead motifs from his legend are seen in the forest silhouettes on the Parlour walls. The design is completed with a hand-laid terrazzo floor.
  • Art nouveau elements, known for their graceful, organic lines and plant-based motifs, reflect the building’s history and make the structure feel alive.

Andaz is a Hindi word for “personal style.” Andaz hotels celebrate the individuality of each guest and are the epitome of unique style and authenticity.
