My husband and I lived in Naples, Italy several years ago, visiting Rome often. We have since returned several times from the U.S.; we know this city well and we love, love, love it to a fault.

Rome is simply incredible and there is no other place like it in the world. A slice of history unfolds at every turn with its ancient fountains, triumphal arch, and long-forgotten statues. Where else can one walk on the very streets that emperors like Julius Caesar once trod?

Don’t let anyone kid you into believing that location doesn’t matter. Especially in a big city like Rome; I can assure you that it does.

The ultimate Rome experience begins with where you choose to sleep in the Eternal City. Though we’ve stayed in many places, our hands-down favorite is the Rome Marriott Grand Hotel Flora. It offers everything we want when visiting Rome: proximity and ease of getting to the main attractions and incredible dining.

Plus, it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Situated at the top of Via Veneto, Hotel Flora is a stylish Neoclassic building next to the stunningly beautiful Villa Borghese Gardens and Museum and 2,000-year-old historic Roman walls. Rome’s iconic Spanish Steps are only a few blocks away.

The Marriott Grand Hotel in Rome exudes a timeless elegance that’s apparent immediately upon entering the lobby. Though the Hotel Flora is a sophisticated luxury property, there’s nothing stuffy about this venue. Rather, we’ve experienced warm and welcoming hospitality.

The property has such an enticing aroma that I had to visit the gift shop to inquire about the alluring scent.

Featuring 155 guest rooms and suites, travelers can choose between deluxe and superior twin, queen and king rooms, or for more space, select one of the hotel’s suites.

We’ve always found the deluxe king ideal for the two of us. Rooms feature classic furnishings, soundproofed windows, unbelievably comfortable bedding, and marble baths with high-end bath products, softy cushy bathrobes and slippers.

Nothing beats a spectacular view and that’s exactly what guests will find on Hotel Flora’s wraparound rooftop terrace. Beautiful by day, magical by night, we find enjoying a cocktail here overlooking the Eternal City always a memorable experience.

Guests can also feast on a fantastic complimentary breakfast buffet with a myriad of options in the hotel’s picturesque conservatory breakfast room which offers stunning panoramic views.

Travelers have access to a dedicated concierge desk for booking tickets and tours. I highly suggest that those visiting Rome for the first time or returning to Rome years after their first trip book a Hop-On Hop-Off tour. One of the stops is just a few blocks stroll from the hotel. The narrated tour offers an amazing overview of the city with stops at some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, Pantheon and Trevi Fountain.

A 24-hour fitness center with Technogym equipment is also complimentary for hotel guests. Wi-Fi is also free and the hotel provides twice daily room service that includes a nightly turndown with a special treat.

Though dining in Rome is like taking a trip to foodie heaven, the hotel does have a signature eatery. Flora Restaurant serves up tasty Mediterranean cuisine and the bar is an immensely popular venue in one of Rome’s most distinguished areas.
